Notice: babies in the waiting room

New mums worry, and they have a lot to worry about. After all they have just begun a long and challenging adventure.

New mums worry, and they have a lot to worry about. After all they have just begun a long and challenging adventure.

Filled with long days and sleepless nights.

Filled with anxiety about shopping with screaming bubs, riding public transport with screaming bubs, worried about the neighbours and screaming bubs, and don't even think about having a holiday that involves boarding a plane.

I would like to convince all the new mums out there to please do one thing, bring screaming bubs with you when you have an appointment with Doctor Knight or Doctor Jessup because it lights up our day. Every shrill cry is a reminder that what we do really matters, that while the journey maybe difficult the outcome is always worth the heartache.

From where I sit at the front desk the biggest joy in my day is the smile on Doctor Knight's face when he sees a returning patient with a baby in tow, the screams and giggles of excitement from Vanja in embryology often accompanied by brags about who ‘really did the hard work’, the gushing of Janie and Sonja at the front desk, and yes while I might try and maintain a facade of uncaring masculinity: big eyes to which every sight is a new experience does melt my heart more than a little.

So please new mums, please bring bubs to the waiting room so we can meet the newest member of your family and of the growing Demeter Family.
