The Demeter team

Demeter Fertility continues to surprise me. I was caught off-guard from the moment I walked in the door for my interview, not expecting the personality test, the friendly chat or the hug Vanja gave me when I left.

Demeter Fertility continues to surprise me. I was caught off-guard from the moment I walked in the door for my interview, not expecting the personality test, the friendly chat or the hug Vanja gave me when I left.

Once I started working at Demeter I was surprised by the friendly atmosphere, the hugs! and their unique approach, to all things fertility and to each other. It’s clear to all who walk through the doors that this is a tightly knit unit.

As the new person, it takes time to adjust, to find your feet and feel like you belong when joining an established team. I am starting to find my place and really understand what it means to be part of the Demeter family. Part of finding my feet was understanding the philosophy behind the Demeter approach. Having come from a clinic where the focus was very much on the numbers – how many eggs – how many fertilised – it felt like every day was a disappointment to someone who expected more.

At Demeter the focus feels very different. The focus is on the best for the patient and getting the best egg. This difference in attitude and practice may seem small but it seems to make a big difference in the results. Patients seem to better understand that IVF has drop off rates, not all eggs collected will fertilise, not all fertilised eggs will make blastocysts and they comprehend that, that’s a good thing, since it helps us to choose the best egg for transfer or freeze.  The sticking point is that it’s only the best egg that will make a baby.
