Natural IVF

Demeter Fertility's Natural IVF technique reduces the doses of medication while focusing on collecting the best quality egg that your body has naturally selected. It's an approach that prioritises quality over quantity.

With the Natural IVF technique, medication is only given for 3-4 days. We do this to stop the body from spontaneously releasing the egg before it can be collected. A small dose of stimulation hormone is given in order to keep the follicles healthy and growing. With Natural IVF, the focus is to collect one high quality naturally selected egg, though sometimes more than one egg can be collected.

Natural IVF is used at Demeter Fertility for women who:

  • Have a low egg reserve
  • Have had a previous poor response to stimulation drugs
  • Are in the older reproductive age group

The very low doses of hormones used mean that egg quality is not compromised and the focus is on collecting just the egg or sometimes eggs that have been naturally selected by the body.

We are especially proud of our success rates with this technique, and our Natural IVF approach can give a higher success rate than conventional IVF in these groups. This approach is a quality over quantity issue. Egg and embryo quality are considered to be better in Natural IVF compared with conventional IVF.

The lining of the womb is more favourable for implantation also. High stimulation drugs and estrogen levels in conventional IVF can adversely affect the chance of implantation and the health of the baby.

As with all our approaches, Natural IVF offers a less invasive approach and the use of very low fertility hormones leads to fewer potential risks and side effects. The risk of Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) is avoided with Natural IVF and there are no menopausal side-effects, which are usually associated with conventional, high stimulation IVF.
