Natural fertility treatment

At Demeter Fertility, we recognise that fertility is influenced by many factors – from egg and sperm health through to lifestyle, age, and medical history.

Our natural fertility treatment program examines the factors that impact fertility and supports your journey towards parenthood.

What is natural fertility?

Natural fertility refers to the ability to conceive without assisted reproductive technologies. It depends on biological, lifestyle and environmental factors that affect egg and sperm health, as well as the timing of conception.

Our natural fertility program is designed to support individuals and couples who wish to optimise these factors before or alongside medical treatment.

What are natural fertility rates?

A healthy woman in her 20s to early 30s typically has a 20-25% chance of conceiving naturally each month. Fertility declines significantly after age 35 and drops steeply after the age of 40.

Men’s fertility also declines after the age of 40 as sperm quality decreases, making it harder to achieve a pregnancy.

Every individual’s fertility is unique – some may conceive quickly, while others may take longer. If you have been trying to conceive for 12 months (or 6 months if over 35), please seek guidance from a fertility specialist.

How to check if you are fertile

Ways to understand fertility include:

Tracking menstrual cycles and ovulation

Reviewing lifestyle factors such as nutrition, weight, alcohol and smoking

Ultrasound

Medical assessments such as hormone testing, ultrasounds and semen analysis.

We cover all that and more in our natural fertility program.

Demeter’s natural fertility program

Our natural fertility program helps you optimise your overall health, which can influence your ability to conceive.

It provides a structured, supportive pathway to complement other fertility treatments or to boost your chances of conceiving naturally. Improving your health can only ever be a good thing – for you, for pregnancy and for child development.

The program includes:

Ultrasound

Comprehensive assessment

Fertility investigations such as hormone testing, ultrasound scans and semen analysis can help to identify areas that may benefit from support.

Lifestyle and nutritional review

Non-judgemental, supportive and practical guidance on diet, weight management, physical activity and reducing modifiable risk factors such as smoking or alcohol use.

Holistic preparation

Attention to sleep, stress management and emotional wellbeing.

Mild ovarian stimulation (if suitable)

In some cases, lower-dose medication cycles are recommended to encourage egg development.

Our goal is to help you understand your fertility and make informed decisions about your next steps, such as continuing naturally, using supportive therapies or exploring other fertility treatments.

What is mild ovarian stimulation?

Dr David Knight pioneered mild ovarian stimulation more than a decade ago. For some patients, lower doses of ovarian stimulation medicines can achieve pregnancy and live birth rates similar to higher-dose treatments, while reducing medication use and lowering the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome.

FAQs about fertility

Factors influencing when a woman is most fertile include:

  • Age: Fertility is highest in the 20s and early 30s.
  • Ovulation: Regular cycles and ovulation timing are key.
  • Health and lifestyle: Diet, exercise, sleep, and stress all play important roles.
  • Reproductive conditions: Such as PCOS or endometriosis, which may affect fertility.

Supporting natural fertility often involves making positive lifestyle choices and addressing modifiable risk factors:

  • Eat a balanced, nutrient-rich diet.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • Prioritise sleep and stress management.
  • Avoid toxins like tobacco, alcohol and other drugs.
  • Manage medical conditions that may affect fertility.

Fertility decreases significantly after 40, which reduces the chances of conception and increases the risk of pregnancy complications. While natural conception is still possible, many individuals explore additional treatment options at this stage.

If you’re over 40 and hoping to have a baby, we’re here for you. Please take a look at our Over-40s Program.
