Walking into your first fertility appointment can feel overwhelming. Whether you’ve been trying to conceive for a while or are just beginning to explore your options, it’s completely normal to feel uncertain or anxious. At Demeter Fertility, we believe that being informed and prepared can help you feel more confident and in control. Here’s what you can expect at your first fertility consultation with us.
Before Your Appointment
To see a fertility specialist, you will need a referral from your GP. Once that’s arranged, we will help you book your first appointment and take a deposit to secure your spot. You’re welcome to bring a partner, support person, or come alone, depending on what feels most comfortable for you.
We recommend preparing any relevant medical history, past test results, or questions ahead of time so you can get the most out of your visit.
During Your Consultation
Your first appointment is a full hour with one of our experienced fertility doctors. This time is dedicated to getting to know you, your medical background, fertility goals, and any concerns or frustrations you may have. It is a chance for you to share your story and feel heard.
Your doctor will recommend a series of tests to better understand your fertility picture. These might include blood tests, ultrasounds, or semen analysis, depending on your circumstances. You will not need to make any decisions on the spot. We take the time to talk you through every option and answer any questions you have.
After Your Visit
You will complete the recommended tests over the coming weeks, which may take anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks, depending on what is involved. Once your results are ready, you will return for a second one-hour consultation, where your doctor will explain the findings and work with you to develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs and goals.
After that, you will have a nurse-led education session, either in person or over the phone. This is an opportunity to review your treatment plan in detail, discuss medication instructions, and clarify any questions you may have.
