ERA Testing

Demeter Fertility is offering a new test that offers hope to patients experiencing Recurrent Implantation Failure, where a patient experiences repeated failure of an embryo to implant in the uterus.

Demeter Fertility is committed to a thorough investigative approach to understand the underlying reasons that woman may be unable to fall pregnant. Reasons for recurrent implantation failure will often fall into two broad categories:

1. Genetic abnormalities

Often there is chromosomal abnormality with the embryo resulting in the failure to implant in the lining of the uterus. This is more common with woman using their own eggs in their late thirties and forties, an age where we see increased risk of chromosomal disorders. In this case pre-implantation genetic screening (PGS) is may be recommended, alternatively donor eggs can be considered.

2. Endometrial receptivity

The ability of the endometrium to receive an embryo is increasingly getting more research attention. As an emerging area there are a number of reasons that the endometrium may be not able to receive an embryo. These may be due to physical issues with the uterus, hormone problems, auto-immune disorders, problems with the endometrium lining or issues with the timing of the embryo implantation. Demeter Fertility has a number of strategies around each of these issues.

One of the latest tests Demeter Fertility has introduced is Endometrial Receptivity Array (ERA) testing. This test is focused on understanding the best time for an embryo to be implanted. For the majority of women the best day for a given aged embryo to implant agrees with the corresponding day of a woman’s menstrual cycle. Research has shown, however, that for some women, their “window of receptivity” is a different to that suggested by their menstrual timing alone. ERA testing helps identify the best time for implantation for an individual woman.
